July 16 & 17, 2012 North Carolina Federal Advanced Technologies Symposium    Chapel Hill

The NC Military Business Center, Senator Richard Burr, the North Carolina Military Foundation, University of North Carolina General Administration, and the Institute for Defense and Business are pleased to host the 2012 North Carolina Federal Advanced Technologies Symposium at the Friday Center at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill  at the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This event will focus on the future advanced technology needs of DoD and other federal agencies within the state.  The objective is to establish a dialogue between industry, academia and government and form partnerships to address the future needs of the federal government to meet the challenges ahead.   $110. July 26, 2012  SBA & SCORE Programs & Services Hendersonville
The Greater Henderson County Chamber of Commerce and SCORE will hold a workshop on SBA and SCORE programs and services at its downtown Hendersonville office.   The workshop will showcase the SBA’s entrepreneurial development, financing and government contracting programs available for small businesses. SCORE-WNC representatives will also speak about how their services can be of benefit to small business owners as well.  The workshop is open to existing and startup small business owners in the area and takes place from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in the conference room at the Chamber offices, located at 204 Kanuga Road, at the corner of Kanuga and Church Streets.  The workshop is free of charge, but attendees are requested to register with the Chamber in advance by phoning 828-692-1413.


August 6-10, 2012 The Entrepreneur Boot Camp for Veterans Fayetteville
The Entrepreneur Boot Camp for Veterans (EBC) at Fayetteville State University  is an excellent training opportunity for veterans, spouses, and family members:  This one week program is offered free of charge.  The program was developed to assist veterans, spouses and family members who want to start a business by helping them to develop competencies in the steps and activities required for start-up. Topics covered: Idea conception and basic elements of small business creation and growth; Understanding basic management, marketing, sales, accounting and operations; How to  develop and write an effective business plan; How to find and secure financing for a small business; Leveraging social media to advance a small business.All costs, meals, materials and text books for the EBC are funded by the SBA, the Veterans Business Outreach Center, and the Bank of America. Applications will be accepted from all veterans, active duty transitioning to civilian, Guard and Reserve, spouses, survivors of our fallen heroes, and1st degree family members. The class is limited to 25 participants, so we highly encourage applicants to apply as soon as possible. August 14, 2012   Doing Business with the Government for Veteran-owned Small Businesses Enka
This workshop targets veteran-owned small businesses that seek to do business with the government and takes place at the Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College Enka campus in western Buncombe County.  Workshop attendees will discover how to identify sales opportunities; evaluate federal and state solicitations for jobs; register a business; find assistance resources; understand the bid process; match a firm with the various SBA and other federal contracting preference programs to maximize a firm’s marketability; and tap into the SBA surety bond guaranty program.  Featured speakers include Clark Fields, Procurement Technical Assistance Counselor with the SBTDC and Mike Arriola, Senior Area Manager with the SBA.  The workshop takes place at AB Tech Enka campus (1465 Sand Hill Road, Candler NC), at the Haynes Conference Center, room 128, from 9 to 11 a.m.  The event is free of charge, but attendees should register by emailing cfields@sbtdc.org or michael.arriola@sba.gov.
