Hosted in Charlotte, the CIAA Tournament is touted as the third most attended basketball tournament among all NCAA divisions. CIAA Tournament Week draws attendees from across the country and offers an array of events covering every social palate including great basketball, parties, free concerts, fashion shows, numerous educational and healthy-living components, step shows, and a battle of the bandsThe CIAA was established in 1912 as the Colored Intercollegiate Athletic Association and is the oldest African-American athletic conference in the nation. The CIAA consists of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) spanning the east coast from Pennsylvania to North Carolina. The colleges and universities consist of both private and public with the enrollments of any where between 750 - 7,000 students. The schools that are part of the membership: Bowie State University, Chowan University, Fayetteville State University, Johnson C. Smith University, Elizabeth City State University, Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, Livingstone College, Saint Augustine's College, Shaw University, Virginia State University, Virginia Union University, and Winston-Salem State University. .
CIAA fans in Charlotte will have a new guide at their fingertips. The tournament unveiled its first-ever mobile app. The app provides information on events, updates and information about Charlotte.
