Logistics company bringing 200 jobs to Queen City

A Michigan-based logistics company is opening a new North American operations center in Charlotte.

XPO Logistics joined N.C. Gov. Bev Perdue and leaders from the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce to announce the 200 jobs that were coming to the Queen City over the next three years.
The jobs, announced Tuesday afternoon, will have an average annual salary of $56,000 plus benefits. The average annual wage in Mecklenburg County is $51,584.

"Globally competitive companies looking to expand or relocate operations know that North Carolina provides a knowledgeable and skilled workforce, thanks to our past investments in education," said Gov. Perdue.

"They also realize that our focus on infrastructure and transportation makes North Carolina a perfect location as businesses reach further around the globe."

XPO Logistics is a non-asset based, third-party logistics provider of freight transportation services that uses a network of relationships with ground, sea and air carriers to offer expedited services, freight forwarding and freight brokerage to customers in North America.

The Michigan-based company recently embarked on an aggressive plan for growth that will be supported by its new North American Operations Center in Charlotte. The facility will incorporate accounting and finance, human resources, IT, brokerage, carrier procurement and operations.

4ALL Statewide Service Day Scheduled Friday, March 2

N.C. lawyers will give freely of their time and talent on Friday, March 2, 2012, as participants in the North Carolina Bar Association’s fifth annual 4ALL Statewide Service Day. Volunteer attorneys will provide free legal information from seven call centers across the state from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Toll-free numbers will be provided through the auspices of five N.C. TV stations that are sponsoring call centers: WLOS News 13 in Asheville; WBTV News 3 in Charlotte; WFMY News 2 in Greensboro (hosted by The Volunteer Center); WRAL-TV 5 in Raleigh; and WNCT-TV 9 in Greenville.
A sixth call center will be hosted in Wilmington by the Williams Mullen law firm, and a Spanish-language call center will be hosted by the North Carolina Bar Association in Cary.

Citizens in all 100 North Carolina counties are encouraged to participate through a network of seven toll-free phone numbers directed toward call centers in Asheville, Cary, Charlotte, Greensboro, Greenville, Raleigh and Wilmington.

N.C. residents who reside in the viewing area of the television stations are encouraged to access those toll-free numbers and view coverage of the event throughout the day.

Members of the public are reminded they can call any of the toll free numbers in any part of the state, which can be especially helpful if volume is especially heavy at one or more call centers. Also, please note that personal visits are not permitted and calls to the call center’s normal phone numbers cannot be transferred.
Here is the call center information, which will be posted on the homepage of the NCBA website, www.ncbar.org, throughout Statewide Service Day:

ASHEVILLE: Western North Carolina and the Asheville area will be served by WLOS News 13 in Asheville. The toll-free number is 1-800-289-0013.

CHARLOTTE: Charlotte/Mecklenburg and surrounding counties will be served by WBTV News 3 in Charlotte. The toll-free number is 1-866-616-4255.

GREENSBORO: Greensboro and the Triad area will be served by WFMY News 2 in Greensboro, The Volunteer Center of Greensboro and United Way of Greater Greensboro. The toll-free number is 1-877-391-6179.
GREENVILLE: Eastern North Carolina will be served by WNCT-TV 9 in Greenville. The toll-free number is 1-888-616-0614.

RALEIGH: Raleigh and the Triangle area will be served by WRAL-TV 5 in Raleigh. The toll-free number for this site is 1-800-424-9725.

WILMINGTON: Wilmington and Southeastern North Carolina will be served by the Wilmington offices of the Williams Mullen law firm. The toll-free number is 1-888-442-3428.
SPANISH-LANGUAGE CALL CENTER: The North Carolina Bar Association will host a call center from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for North Carolina’s Spanish-speaking residents. The toll-free number is 1-855-455-4255.
The statewide service project coincides with the NCBA’s 4ALL campaign to provide civil legal aid to the poor. The event was first held in 2008 during the term of NCBA President Janet Ward Black of Greensboro, and has since taken on a life of its own and hundreds of volunteers gather annually to provide free legal information to thousands of North Carolinians.
The 2012 4ALL Statewide Service Day is led by Emily Moseley and Daniel Merlin.
